  • ACSA loses founding executive director Bill Cunningham
    It is a sad time for ACSA members and staff. Bill Cunningham, ACSA’s first executive director, has passed away. “As members and staff, all of us benefit from the outstanding association Bill was instrumental in establishing,” said current ACSA Executive Director Bob Wells.
  • Women superintendents topic at breakfast
    Thelma Meléndez de Santa Ana, superintendent of Pomona USD, will deliver the keynote address at this year’s Women’s Leadership Breakfast, Nov. 7 at the ACSA Leadership Summit. The focus is expected to center on the paths women take to the superintendency. Men are also encouraged to attend.
  • Legislature may meet on budget mess
    Revenues are dropping, and the governor and Legislature are reportedly discussing the possibility of a special session on the budget. Although more cuts in the short-term are certainly on the table, what is really needed is a viable answer to the state’s chronic long-term needs.
  • LEAs should be aware of revised Prop. 39 timeline
    ACSA, CSBA and CASBO had hoped that once a lawsuit on Proposition 39 charter facilities regulations was filed, a stay would have been issued to prevent the changes from taking effect until the matter had been resolved through the legal system. But this did not occur and appears unlikely now.
