Positions on Legislation and Policy

In any given year, ACSA’s policy and legislative workload will include advocacy and/or tracking of over 800 individual legislative bills. On top of that, governmental relations and management services staff will represent the association on another 50-60 policy, political, or regulatory matters that pose statewide significance to ACSA members and public education. Policy positions on such matters are taken by ACSA leadership via several processes:

Legislative bills and measures

Statewide candidates and ballot initiatives

Policy and political issues

  • AB 72 (Duvall) Defeated April 22 in Assembly Education
We were successful in defeating AB 72 (Duvall) last Wednesday night, April 22, 2009 in Assembly Education. AB 72 would have shifted the governance of K-12 data including CALPADs from the State Superintendent to the Chief Information Officer (CIO) who is appointed by the Governor. The bill was granted “reconsideration” however the deadline for amendments has passed so the bill will likely not come up until next January 2010 if at all.
