These are tough economic times for California’s public schools. School funding is at an all time low while expectations for our students and for educators have never been greater.
Lawmakers are looking to their constituents to help solve the state’s $28 billion budget deficit. In November, Governor Schwarzenegger proposed cutting school funding by an additional $2.5 billion – on top of the $3 billion that schools have already been cut in 2008-09.
Proposed cuts to California education will have catastrophic consequences for schools and students. ACSA, along with other members of the Education Coalition, are encouraging lawmakers to approve revenue increases, as schools need ongoing, stable funding now more than ever.
Our elected leaders need to be reminded of what hard-working Californians already know: these devastating cuts to public education are undermining our state's future. That's why administrators, teachers and parents across California are united against further mid-year budget cuts.
