ACSA endorses Muratsuchi for SPI in 2026 General Election

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Association of California School Administrators (ACSA), representing 18,000 California public school leaders, has endorsed Assemblymember Al Muratsuchi for state Superintendent of Public Instruction in the 2026 General Election.

“Mr. Muratsuchi has been an advocate for California public schools and the students we serve,” said Dr. Daryl Camp, ACSA President and the superintendent of San Lorenzo Unified School District. “Based on our long-standing work with him, we believe he is the best candidate to advance positive outcomes for students statewide.”

ACSA’s endorsement followed a comprehensive evaluation process of all SPI candidates that included candidate questionnaires, interviews with the ACSA Board of Directors, videos for our internal and external audiences, and a review of each candidate’s record in support of public education.

Elected to the state Legislature in 2012, Muratsuchi has built a strong record on education policy.

His work includes championing the Local Control Funding Formula, authoring Proposition 2—the $10 billion statewide school bond approved by voters in 2024—and leading the California Safe Haven Schools Act. He has also advanced efforts to strengthen the educator workforce and reduce administrative burdens on school systems.

Muratsuchi received the ACSA Friend of Public Education Award in 2023.

“I’m proud and grateful to be endorsed by school superintendents, principals, and other school leaders represented by the Association of California School Administrators,” Muratsuchi said. “Throughout my service as an educator, local school board member, and statewide Chair of the Assembly Education Committee, I’ve worked closely with school district leaders to fight for public education and serve our students. I look forward to continuing to work with ACSA to make California public schools the best in the country.”

The Association of California School Administrators is the largest umbrella organization for school leaders in the United States, serving more than 18,000 California educators. ACSA is the only association in the nation that encompasses the broad spectrum of the management/leadership team. We serve school administrators in 19 regions throughout California, each made up of local charters.
