California Administrators' Equity Alliance

Who We Are

The California Administrators' Equity Alliance (CAEA), representing over 20,000 members from the Association of California School Administrators (ACSA), the California Association of African American Superintendents & Administrators (CAAASA), the California Association of Latino Superintendents and Administrators (CALSA) and the California Association of Asian and Pasifika Leaders in Education (CAAPLE) is working together to strengthen a statewide agenda that prioritizes the education, health, and well-being of Black, Latinx and Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander young people and educational leaders.


Mission

We are dedicated to empowering our educational leaders to create equitable systems, uplifting young people furthest from opportunity. We are committed to promoting anti-racist practices and policies aimed at dismantling inequities and discrimination in our education system. Together, we can build a public school system that enables all students to be seen, heard, and valued, laying the groundwork for a more just public education system and a stronger democracy that ensures every human has the right to resources and economic prosperity.


What We Believe

Our collective efforts aim to lead systemic change, remove barriers to success, and improve outcomes for historically marginalized students.

Grounded on an antiracist-equity framework, to collectively advocate for policies that support all students, with focused attention on students of color.


How We Do It

1) Prioritize An Educator Workforce that is diverse, talented and sustainable

  • Build a strategic pipeline and support system for educators of color.
  • Track progress of composition for teachers and administrators entering and staying in the workforce statewide who identify as Black, Latine, Asian American and Pacific Islander, Native.
  • Prioritize the physical safety and emotional well-being of students, staff, and community.

2) Invest in Equitable Access to Resources and Opportunities

  • Student needs-based funding to determine distribution of funding, technology, and instructional materials.
  • Access to advanced coursework, extracurriculars, and college/career readiness programs.
  • Strong support for multilingual learners and students with disabilities.

3) Advocate for a Culturally, Linguistically and Inclusive Curriculum

  • Instruction that reflects diverse cultures, histories, and perspectives.
  • Teaching approaches that validate and affirm students' identities.

4) Support High-Quality, Well-Supported Educators & School Leaders

  • Teachers and administrators trained in culturally responsive pedagogy.
  • Ongoing professional development on equity and inclusion.
  • Recruitment and retention of diverse educators.

5) Foster Student-Centered Instruction and Assessment Systems

  • Differentiated instruction to meet diverse learning needs.
  • Multiple ways for students to demonstrate understanding, learning and growth over time.
  • Asset-based approaches that build on students’ strengths.
  • Disaggregated growth models over time

6) Push for Safe and Supportive School Conditions

  • Trauma-informed practices and restorative justice approaches.
  • Anti-bias policies and interventions to prevent discrimination.
  • Mental health and socio-emotional learning (SEL) support systems.

7) Advance Youth, Family and Community Power & Shared Decision Making

  • Youth expertise in school and district decision-making
  • Authentic partnerships with families, valuing their voices in decision-making.
  • Collaboration with community organizations to support holistic student needs.
  • Language access and culturally responsive communication.

8) Back Policies that Disrupt Systemic Inequities

  • Elimination of exclusionary discipline practices that disproportionately affect marginalized students.
  • Equitable school funding formulas.
  • Accountability systems that prioritize student growth and well-being.
