ACSA’s effectiveness in shaping education policy at both the state and federal level lies in its grassroots strength. To that end, ACSA is structured with operational committees as well as job-alike and/or issue-focused councils made up of education leaders.
Councils and committees respond to and develop activities and resources related to board adopted issues and ACSA’s mission and vision, and they also act on issues specific to and identified by the council or committee itself.
Interested in serving?
Members interested in serving as a state representative for their region on a council or committee will need to contact their region leadership. We recommend you follow the steps below to get started.
Step 1: Do your homework
Take the time to research the purpose and makeup of ACSA’s councils and committees to determine which ACSA group is the best fit for you. While some councils and committees are broken up by job-alike (i.e., elementary educators, Human Resources leaders or superintendents), others are by district size (i.e., small school districts) or interest (membership or legislative policy).

Step 2: Connect with your region
Check on your region website or with your region leadership to see who is currently serving on the groups you might be interested in. You can also access a complete directory of ACSA member leadership by logging into your member portal and clicking on Leadership Directory.
Your current serving representatives can share the work of the council or committee with you and the commitment required.
Step 3: Commit to serving
Let your region leadership know you’d like to be nominated to serve. Service requires region approval as well as active ACSA membership. Members may serve on only one ACSA state council or committee at a time.
Other Opportunities to Network and Lead
ACSA also offers members a wide range of networking and leadership opportunities, from your local charter to peer groups. Find connections that help advance your career, support for specific challenges, and friendships that last a lifetime.
